MOC-Productions's News

Posted by MOC-Productions - May 8th, 2012

My fellow Newgrounders,

It's been a little while since my last post. I've been pretty god damn busy over the past few months. School is finally over, Venaticus is finished, and I finally have some free time. So here are some updates and such...

Animation Reel

For school, we had to put together a film reel showcasing the work we're most proud of. After putting that one together, I decided to do an animation reel as well, considering I had 8 years worth of projects. So here it is: my animation reel from 2003-2011.

Let me know what you think.

Venaticus

Some of you may already know, the last few months have been devoted to my new short film,Venaticus. It may seem like I've disappeared from Newgrounds in terms of animation, but I considered this project as important as any of my projects on this site. This movie is just about complete, but I won't be able to put it on youtube for quite some time. I may have a private version on Vimeo or something in the next week or so though. For anyone interested, here's the trailer

Didn't get a whole lot of feedback on that in my last post, so let me know what you guys think of that as well.

2039

After a gruesome debate, I've decided I'll probably go the tough route and do the sci-fi project I've been wanting to do for over a year. I want this thing to be a masterpiece, mainly because it may be the last animation I ever do.

I'm going to need as much help as I can get on this thing, so to ALL VOICE ACTORS, ANIMATORS, ARTISTS, etc., if you want in on my next project, let me know what you'd be interested in. I realize that's difficult to determine considering I've posted almost nothing about it, but it would be nice to know who's willing to collaborate regardless.

Subscribe to my YouTube Channel.

Well, I think that's all I've got for now. Comment, troll, do whatever.

Hey Newgroundians (Idk. Trying something new),

If anyone has been keeping up with MOC news (again, I know there aren't many), you may know that I've been working fucking tirelessly on my new short film, "Venaticus". Filming/editing has been quite a ride. My brain feels like it turned to mush, but I'm happy with the way everything turned out.

ANYWAY, here's the trailer.

If you like it, SUPPORT THAT SHIT! Tell your friends. Spread the word. If not, then uh, whatever.

It'll be a little while before the finished product comes out. This thing is an homage to the work of David Fincher, so I'm putting a ton of work into the editing process.

Comment, let me know what you think, blah...

Hey guys,

I only get a FP post every 14 days so I figure I might as well use it. This time I just have a question for you all...

I officially start filming my homage film (more info here) in two weeks. Needless to say, it is burning a rather large hole in my pocket. My shitty job doesn't pay much, so I can only afford so much. The film itself isn't going to be TOO expensive (about $400 maybe?), but like I said...me poor :(

So my question to you guys is...is it worth it to set up a Kickstarter fund to raise like $100 two weeks before shooting? Like would any of you donate to that? I'd rather know ahead of time if anyone's interested before setting this thing up, so any input you guys have would be great. I figure in the end, it probably won't be worth it, but if you guys are down and would end up donating, I will set it up and give everyone the proper credit.

In a nutshell, its a short film that will be shot in the style of director David Fincher, if that tickles anyone's fancy...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE comment guys. Any input on this situation is totally welcome, good or bad.

Thanks!

-Matt Hunter

Film Kickstarter?

Posted by MOC-Productions - February 28th, 2012

Hey NGs,

I haven't posted in quite some time. While I'm sure no one really cares why, I'll explain anyway...

School has been trying to bend me over and give me a good rogering, but I've been pretty resistant. Currently, I'm working on a short film for my Moving Image Production class. Our assignment is to create an 8-minute homage film to the director of our choice. My choice of director is David Fincher.

Now anyone who follows my work here on the site (yes I know, there aren't too many of you) should already know that I am big on film and always strive for a reasonable cinematic look. However, film and animation are two completely different things (yeah, no shit). So this project is going to suck every bit of life right out of me, but hopefully the end result will be something spectacular.

What I ask of all of you is simply support. Filming is scheduled to be finished at the very end of March. At that point, I'll put out a trailer and release the movie soon after. I'm not naive enough to think everyone on here will take a grand interest in a short student film, but I'm going to work my ass off on this thing.

All I ask is that if you guys do somehow end up stumbling across it when it's released AND you happen to like it, simply spread the word. I'm trying now more than ever to put myself out there and make my name a recognizable one. I've always loved the feedback, support, and even criticisms from the many users on this site and hope I can get those same things for this project.

Well, I'd say I've rambled for long enough. If you've made it this far, thanks for the support and taking the time out of your day to read this.

And of course, I can't make a post without posting SOME kind of picture, so here's an EXTREMELY ROUGH teaser/whatever poster for the movie I'm going to be working on. Just a really quick photoshop job.

Okay, I'm done for real now.

Working on a Film

So yeah, about that redesign...

It is pure awesomeness. I think the project system is a great addition. I won't lie, this will take some getting used to, but the overall look of the site is one of the most visually stunning designs I've seen on any website.

I also think the whole "featured artist" thing is pretty cool. Depending how often that is updated, I think it'd be great to really bring some underground artists out from under the ground.

The new voting system is also pretty awesome. I like that only the stars can be seen and not the exact score. And of course the icons are a huge highlight. It kind of sucks I have to go back and remake icons for projects I don't even have possession of anymore, but that is the price we pay for such a cool design.

Overall, I love it. Kudos to Tom and the NG team.

The Redesign (yes another one of those)

So I've been bouncing back and forth between doing a sci-fi or a new Madness project. I just can't decide which one to do first. There are ups and downs to both.

So I came up with an idea...

I'm going to be creating two trailers: one for the sci-fi and one for the madness movie. Based on the reception, I will decide which one to green light. I may ask you guys to do a vote or something when they come out. We shall see.

If the sci-fi project gets greenlit, I'm going to start one of those kickstarter things and see if I can attain a budget to bring on other animators/artists.

So this means I'll be requiring voice actors, etc. I'll make a post for that when everything gets started.

---

To give a TINY idea of what the designs may look like for the project, I quickly threw together these two sketches. Lemme know what you think! (or which one you'd like to see more).

Hey NG,

I have a few things to talk about, but primarily, I'd like to show you assholes my new short film I did for college. The assignment was to make a two-minute movie with a Bolex camera. We didn't get to record sound on-set so everything is dubbed in (poorly), but check it out.

The main detective is is played by me. I wouldn't call myself an actor, but our resources were limited, so fuck off.

Anyway...

If anyone has actually been following my recent endeavors (which I doubt), I've been talking about a sci-fi project. I had a long talk with a close collaborator of mine and we discussed possible plans for another Madness movie before the sci-fi. I've been against doing another Madness movie for quite some time and I still kind of am. However, what we came up with was pretty awesome. So I'm currently debating whether to do it, or hold off on it and do the sci-fi first. I'm still leaning toward the sci-fi. I just hate the fact that it's going to take AT LEAST a year. But it will be worth it. Christ, I'm rambling.

What do you guys think? Do the sci-fi now or do a new Madness project in between?

Hello Newgrounds,

I've been talking about a Madness Heist DVD for a while, but haven't really set anything in motion. The problem is I usually use Adobe Encore to make my DVD's, but the program has crapped out on me. Sadly, there aren't many other mac-compatible programs for making DVD menus and such. So I'm working on that. I'm close to just letting Travis put it together for me. He was kind enough to offer, so I might take him up on that if my bad luck streak continues.

Anyway, I put together a new trailer to promote this DVD release. You'll notice the image I'm showing is in a blu-ray case. I like the look of it, but I may not be able to produce it and sell it considering it's expensive and I'm not sure I'm actually allowed to use the blu-ray logo. Odds are I'm not, but one can dream.

Anyway, here's the new trailer and a little info card listing the special features.

It may be a while until it's actually complete, but there's some insight. Hopefully now that winter break has started, I can get some concept art together for the upcoming sci-fi. We shall see.

We meet again, Newgrounds...

So it's been a little while since my last post and while I'd like to say I have tons of news, I don't. I do have a FEW updates though, so let's see...

Interview

Check out the interview here.

I was recently interviewed by The-Great-One so if anyone wants to learn about my sad pathetic history with flash/this site, maybe give that one a read. There's also a small detail about the sci-fi in there that I think people may be pleased about, so I won't ruin it in this post. HOWEVER...speaking of the sci-fi project...

Sci-Fi Project (Pre-Production)

I keep talking about a sci-fi project that I've been developing, but haven't really said much other than that. So here are some details that I can reveal currently:

It will be a "post-modern" war-themed sci-fi. It will take place in the future, but not TOO far. I really want to experiment with the type of crazy technology the military would be using in the not too distant future, which also becomes a major plot element.

The setting for this movie will most likely be in the ruins of Chicago, which has become a war zone. I'm in Chicago two days a week, so it feels right to make the setting somewhere I'm familiar with. I also think it will be fun to play with some of the architecture.

The cast will consist of almost EVERYONE I've worked with in the past and a few newcomers, who I won't name yet. But the script isn't even written yet, so I will most likely end up with open spots once it's finished.

Once the script is complete and I can track down the funds to afford a Cintiq, the ball will start rolling. Until then, that's all I prefer to reveal for right now. But stay tuned because most of the news I'll be posting from now on will primarily focus on that.

---

So there are some details. I always like to post an image with my news posts, but I don't really have anything fresh or new, so here is a Madness Heist "desktop wallpaper" if anyone wants it. The art is courtesy of the great Shadman. I just took images from the original poster he put together and pieced them into this thing. If anyone wants to DL (for whatever reason), I can put it on my filedump in hi-res and send people the link, but I've gotta get the okay from Shadman first.

So anyway, check out that interview if you find that stuff interesting.

Until next time,

-Matt Hunter

Interview and Sci-Fi Details

Hey Newgrounders,

Most of my posts are lengthy, but I'll try and make this one short and sweet. I just saw that Shadman's Madness Heist poster is officially in the NG 2012 Calendar! WOOOO!

Everyone go buy one NOW because there's a ton of other badass artwork in there as well.

Shadman will also be doing a Gotham Heat poster for me soon, so keep an eye out for that.

Also, I've been getting really into TheInterviewer page. I didn't realize just how many people's interviews are on there. Anyone who wants to know about some of their favorite NG artists should check that out. There are some really interesting things in there.

That's all I have for now. I'll post news on the upcoming sci-fi project as soon as there's actually news to post.

And remember, GET A CALENDAR!
