Here's another ass-load of news. I've gotta post this stuff more frequently so I don't have to jam-pack these posts.
Venaticus Trailer 2 (Fincher Version)
Remember WAY back in the day when I talked about my student homage film? Yeah me neither. So to refresh everyone's head, I cut a new trailer. I tried to tailor it after The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trailer (no not the one with Immigrant Song. Fuckin' sick of those).
I've been sitting on this movie, constantly editing and re-editing. I'm about 90% satisfied, but there are still things I'd like to fix before attempting to submit it to festivals.
Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think...
For those who may be wondering, we are also still slaving away at "Madland". Pretty safe to say it will be my biggest project to date.
So for anyone interested in hearing what the score is going to sound like, you can check out a the preview track HERE. Courtesy of Mr.Redstone.
Speaking of my brother...
With My Mind's Madness Redux
A while back, MindChamber was looking for someone to re-score his epic Madness short With My Mind's Madness. So naturally, my brother rose to the task. I think he did a solid job.
Again, let me know what you think, or just go directly to their channels and show them some support. I think that's all I've got for now. I'm probably missing something, but whatever.
So I've released two small things in the past few weeks which is more than my usual activity....
Madland Trailer
For Madness Day this year, I released the first teaser trailer for my new project "Madland". It may not seem like it, but I spent a SHITLOAD of time on it. Since the movie is still in early production, I only had time to create a series of "money shots" and string them together to give people a sense of what the movie will be like.
I was a little disappointed by the turnout considering barely anyone saw it. But I can't really complain considering it's only a trailer. As time goes by, I'll have more to show and hopefully be able to build a little more hype. This is a very important project for me.
Moving on...
Yoshi Hates Castles
For the longest time, I've wanted to participate in one of those "jams" here on Newgrounds. The idea of a 48 hour animation challenge seemed really fun to me...and it was. So for Movie Jam 2, MrRedstone, Shock-Dingo, and myself threw "Yoshi Hates Castles" together. I can honestly say it feels like it was a success. It got daily 3rd and front-paged. Both of which we were very appreciative of.
For those of you who are even remotely familiar with my work here, you'll quickly notice this one is the complete opposite of that. I've always been interested in doing little comedic shorts, but wouldn't want people to get the wrong impression and think that's my thing. I'd much rather be known for the movies I spend 6-10 months on than the ones I spend a few days on.
However, I do feel that in order to keep from going utterly insane, it is nice to have a project that I can actually have fun doing, devote a nice quiet night or two to, and still end up with something I'm proud of.
24HRC...4?
A while back, the ever-so famous RicePirate joined forces with a team of extremely talented animators (including RedHarvest, Pegosho, and Ockeroid) to create the first 24-hour collab, or as we know it, Red Ronin. The concept is pretty self explanatory. Group of artists all have one day to animate a specific concept or idea. Those all get thrown together and BAM! "24HRC" happens.
I've always wanted to get down on one of these, but it would seem the creators (like most of us) lack the time to plan another one. I won't lie, now that I know I'm relatively capable, I wouldn't mind taking up this mantle. I REALLY want to do a 24HRC and collab with a bunch of animators I'm familiar with, and maybe a few I'm not. It just seems like the networking there would be a total blast.
Now obviously, this whole 24HRC concept belongs to Mick and the rest of the originals, and I haven't discussed this with them yet (mainly because I JUST thought of this). For now, it's just an idea I'm throwing out there. I shall investigate this possibility further and contact the board to see what they think.
Before I sign off, I just want to give a big congrats to my brother, MrRedstone for winning 3rd place in the Madness Day audio contest! And there was much rejoicing. Check out his track here!
Well, there's another novel's worth of news. Comment, check out my shit, subscribe to my YouTube channel, blah blah blah.
Check it out and let me know what you think. It's roughly a months worth of work. I originally had RicePirate doing voice-overs in it (they were great), but I don't think voices ended up being necessary for this short preview. Turned out more abstract than I planned.
So let's all enjoy the ultra-violence that is Madness Day. I'll be updating this post regularly today in honor of the celebration.
Hey guys,
Sad day...
I was originally going to post some updates about "Madland", but a great tragedy occurred yesterday.
Tony Scott (1944-2012)
Tony Scott, director of films such asTop Gun, Enemy of the State, and Man of Fire, also brother of director Ridley Scott, committed suicide yesterday. Leaving a suicide note in his car, he decided to jump off of a Los Angeles bridge. This is allegedly because he was battling an "inoperable brain cancer". I in no way condone suicide, but I'm glad he went out with a rush and said "fuck you" to cancer.
I grew up loving many of Scott's films and can honestly say many of them had a major influence on me between film and animation. While Ridley Scott has made some classics, I have always preferred Tony's fast-paced style and editing. I'll never forget the first time I saw True Romance and how blown away I was not only by the action, but the performances as well. Same goes for Man on Fire, which is another one of my all-time favorites.
Tony was a pioneer of the action genre, constantly inventing new techniques to keep the adrenaline flowing. He always knew how to make each gunfight/explosion/car chase serve it's purpose to the story while also giving the audience a reason to care for each character and remain wholly entertained. Directors like Tony are hard to come across, and he will be missed.
R.I.P. Tony Scott

In honor of the man, I put together this image. Which Tony Scott film is your favorite?

I've been slacking with the posts lately. I'm working on my new project, now officially called "Madland". which takes a cinematic approach to the Madness universe, characters and all. Pace of work is slow but gaining momentum. The script has been done for over a month and I've been doing alot of preliminary art.
Voice Casting
I think it's about time I start looking for voice actors to help me get the ball really rolling here. I've created casting call post in the forum with all the necessary info. As stated in there, one of the roles is likely to go to RicePirate, but I want to be prepared in case anything falls through. Check it out if you're interested in voicing!
Design Tricky
With this project, I'm trying to give everyone a unique design so it doesn't look like just another Madness project. While this story involves a few "sci-fi" type elements, it is still to maintain a relatively realistic look. With that, I can't for the fucking life of me figure out how I want Tricky to look.
I've gone through several concepts, ranging from opera masks, clown masks, medieval masks, no mask, long hair, no hair etc. Needless to say, I wasn't happy with any of them.
So for all you artists...
If any of you want to take a stab at designing Tricky for this movie, let me know. Doesn't have to be anything elaborate. Just a basic, colored concept. Preferably drawn with the line tool (I know, fuck that right?) since that's how I've been illustrating the others.
Send your images to me however you'd like. PM me, email me at mocproductionsflash@gmail.com, or put it in the dumping grounds and link it here.
If I had a nickel for every time I decided to switch between a new Madness movie or a my sci-fi, I'd be a rich man...
I've decided (for now) to go with another Madness movie. My reasoning is this: I had a ton of fun doing Madness Heist last summer and would like to enjoy my summer this year as well. Plus I'd like to improve on my FBF skills before losing my mind doing the sci-fi project. I think doing a new madness is a good opportunity to do that while enjoying the process.
Now this won't be a Madness Heist sequel like everyone's been asking for. I'm sorry, but it just wouldn't work. I don't want to risk overdoing Red's character.
Instead, I want to plunge into the actual Madness universe and utilize a handful of Krinkels' awesome characters. I wouldn't follow the same exact storyline, but rather build my own from what we've seen so far and tell an original complete story. I've always loved the dynamic between Hank and Tricky and would like to do alot with that in a way people have never seen.
Where you guys come in...
Obviously, I'm getting a bit of a late start on this, so I don't want to end up rushing through the project and having it turn out to be a piece of shit. So I'm going to need help on this one. This is what I'll potentially be looking for...
Voice actors
Background artists
Special effects artists
Shading artists
I always like to know who's interested before bothering to send out material, so please let me know if you will have the time/passion to get in on something like this. I want this project to be everything it can be and love collaborating with people who have an equal passion for the project.
And in case anyone is wondering, the reason I'm so inspired to do this project is because I saw "The Raid". It's a new martial-arts/action film that immediately became one of my favorites of all time. It's basically what Madness Combat would be like in real life. So with this project, I want to pay tribute to it.
Check out the trailer out and tell me that's not real-life Madness...
Yeah...it's fucking badass.
And if anyone wants to know if I'm worth working with, but doesn't want to devote a whole bunch of time sifting through all my past work, here's my demo reel...
So there you go. I'm down to do more Madness, but need to get crackin' soon. So whoever wants in, let me know.
